White Paper Content Guidelines
The
following white paper content guidelines define what
content may be contained within white papers that are
submitted to Althos.
White Paper Focus
The reader should be able to
determine the key topic covered in the white paper after
reading the opening paragraph, which should contain a
key problem statement and issues related to the white
paper topic. Althos may request and/or suggest
modifications to the opening paragraph and/or various
sections of the white paper.
Creation Date
The creation date should
represent the actual release date of the white paper. If
it is determined that the listed creation date differs
substantially (several years) from the relevance of the
content contained within the white paper, Althos may
remove the white paper from promotion and distribution.
Note that various techniques can be utilized to update
the content contained within the white paper to better
reflect the creation date.
Use of Logos and Trademarks
The white paper should only
contain logos and trademarked names that the submitting
company owns or has authorization to use. It is
unacceptable to use competitors’ logos, or to include
disparaging content specifically referencing the names
of competitors or their products.
Promotional Content
A white paper should not
contain overt promotional content (ads or coupons)
within the body. It is acceptable to provide links to
reference materials that contain promotional information
within the document, and to include a promotional offer
in text form at the end of the white paper that is
relative to the white paper subject topic.
Embedded Links
White papers may contain
embedded links which may redirect to other web pages.
Embedded links can include tracking codes to allow for
the identification or interaction of readers with the
white paper. Links and their reference points (anchor
text location) should be provided to Althos in a
separate file.
Revisions
Contributors may submit
revisions to white papers at any time. Althos may
suggest or require revisions to white papers at any
time. Such revisions may be deemed necessary for
editorial purposes, or serve to update any outdated
content that is contained in the white paper.
Layout
The white paper should have a
professional and consistent appearance. This includes
borders of at least 1 inch, numbered pages and line
spacing of at least 1.5. The structure and positioning
of content should promote a progressive level of
interest. White papers should follow a concise format
consisting of:
· Primary Problem:
consisting of (2) pain points, interesting factoids,
solution promise
· Background: consisting of
history, market data, trends, (3) supporting issues
and evidence
· Analysis: consisting of
(3) problem causes
· Solutions: (2) options
· Recommendation: product
specific
· Resources
· Contact Information
Time References
It is recommended to limit
the use of dates referenced in the document if the white
paper is expected to be distributed over the course of
several years. Readers who see dates that are several
years old may stop reading the document, fearing that
the contents are outdated, or suggested solutions longer
apply. When time references are necessary, absolute time
references should be used (actual date) rather than
relative time references (last year).
Relevant Content
The content provided in the
white paper should be relevant to the key issue or topic
of the white paper. Excessive commentary or unrelated
content can distract the reader and dilute the impact of
the solution defined in the white paper. If we determine
that the white paper contains non-essential or
irrelevant content, we may recommend changes or reject
the listing of the white paper on our sites.
Fair and Unbiased Content
White papers should provide a
fair representation of the options and solutions
presented. Slander against competitors or
unsubstantiated comparative statements are not allowed.
Althos may require any such content to be revised or
omitted before publication.
Images
White papers may include the
use of relatively simple images to allow for printing
and photocopying of the document without significant
loss of image quality. The recommended number of images
is no more than 1 for each page of text.
